Sacred Words

A linguist and etymologist, I am not. However, my interest in these areas is strong. This morning I was reflecting on certain common words with sacred origins.

Enthusiasm: (Greek: enthousiasmos) — This originally meant "to be possessed by God."

Sacrifice: (Latin: sacrificium)
— This means "to make sacred."

Ecstasy: (Greek: existimi: έκστασις) — This means "to be outside oneself."
